Montessori Intern

The Montessori Intern will support the Lead Montessori Guide to help guide the child through self-directed activities, allowing the child to develop at his or her own pace. They are expected to foster, along with the lead teachers, a nurturing and stimulating non-competitive environment.

 

Qualifications:
​
  • Bachelor’s degree or 120 semester hours of approved college credit or a Bachelor’s degree equivalence as determined by an independent agency authorized to evaluate foreign credentials.

  • Completed the Academic Phase of MACTE accredited teacher education course.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Evidence of continuing education and professional growth to include meeting all necessary requirements as established by state law and regulatory agencies.

  • Must be able to pass a background check.

  • Within first 30 days of employment must be able to meet all necessary requirements as established by state law and regulatory agencies.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follows the guidelines of the classroom Montessori teacher.

  • Prepare and maintain a beautiful, developmentally-appropriate classroom environment.

  • Serve as a guide between the child and the prepared environment.

  • Present Montessori materials and lessons to the children, demonstrating proper Montessori principles such as control of error and isolation of difficulty.

  • Provide children with opportunities for choice, decision making, problem solving, independence, and responsibility.

  • Plan and implement group activities.

  • Effectively communicate with children, parents, staff and administration.

  • Work as a team member with staff and administrators.

  • Under the guidance of the classroom Montessori teacher: 

    • Observes, evaluates, and adapts both indoor and outdoor instructional environments and materials to the needs of the students.

    • Maintains student records, evaluates student progress, and keeps attendance in compliance with school, local, and state regulations.

    • Participates in staff meetings and in establishing team compatibility.

    • Is involved with family support and community services, parent education, conferences, meetings, and school events.

    • Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in working with colleagues, parents, and students.

  • Monitors the various activities of the class, including time on the playground, lunch, and special events. 

  • Models grace & courtesy and implements positive classroom management.

  • Attends school functions.

  • Required attendance and participation in all staff meetings.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, bend, lift and work in an outdoor playground environment for extended periods of time while supervising children.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
