
Classroom Assistant
The Classroom Assistant provides support of the implementation of authentic Montessori practice in a Montessori environment, with an understanding, willingness and deep appreciation for the Montessori education.
Qualifications:

Must have High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum one-year related experience.

Evidence of continuing education and professional growth.

Instructional Assistant shall be at least 18 years old.

Desire to further the understanding and practice of Montessori philosophy.

Work under the direct supervision of the staff person in charge of the group of children to whom the instructional assistant is assigned.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Evidence of continuing education and professional growth to include meeting all necessary requirements as established by state law and regulatory agencies.

Must be able to pass a background check.

Within first 30 days of employment must be able to meet all necessary requirements as established by state law and regulatory agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Establish a harmonious relationship with Montessori Primary Lead and all supporting staff.

Collaborate daily with Montessori Primary Lead and help with classroom maintenance, classroom management.

Models and implements positive classroom leadership and administration in support of the classroom and school community.

As directed by the Montessori Guide, assist in preparing and maintaining the Montessori environment.

Serves the needs of the children and Montessori community.
-
Protecting the safety and well-being of children.
-
Assists children with daily work.

Monitors the various activities of the class, including time on the playground, nap, lunch, and special events.

Assisting in the development of and participates in classroom events, school functions, and school-wide activities.

Responsible for preparing an environment in which the furnishings and materials are complete including care and maintenance of classroom supplies and equipment and maintaining inventory of classroom materials:

Prepare curriculum materials, as needed.
-
Replenishing supplies.
-
Repairing materials as necessary.
-
Organizing storage/assist in inventory.

Use appropriate positive Montessori discipline techniques with students.

Interact with the students in a friendly and supportive manner using student’s name with calm tone of voice.

Notify Montessori Primary Guide on concerning matters with students or parents.

Oversees and directs hands-on classroom work and activities.

Works with individual and small groups of children.
-
Uses positive language and behavioral management techniques in all interactions.

Prepares snack and helps with carpool as needed.
-
Participates in record keeping assessment of children as requested.

Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in dealing with co-workers, student, and parents.

Required attendance and participation in all staff meetings.

Other duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements
-
Must be able to stand, bend, lift and work in an outdoor playground environment for extended periods of time while supervising children.
-
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
